When a parent is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family is affected. For children, the carefree joys and adventure of childhood are often replaced with new responsibilities, anger, guilt and the fear of losing (or loss of) a parent. We partner with local hospitals, cancer support groups and community organizations to ensure that campers have the chance to share their experiences, learn from peers and have fun!

Camp Kesem UW-Madison was founded by a group of student leaders in the fall of 2009. CKUW opened its doors to 15 campers during the 2010 summer session. As a chapter we have grown quickly over the past couple years and served 120 campers in 2014 with the help of 60 amazing student staff and a handful of professional staff (nurses, mental health professionals, Camp Kesem National advisors). Last summer was also CKUW's first time having two weeks of camp in order to continue growing! We look forward to expanding again and having a magical summer in 2015! Our goal is to expand to serve 150 campers spread among two individual weeks of camp with the help of 70 student staff/camp counselors. The weeks of camp for the summer of 2015 are July 19-25 and August 14-20. If you are interested, check out our page for more information about your child attendign Camp Kesem UW-Madison!

We hope you join us in supporting this often over-looked population of children who have been affected by a parent's cancer!
